Snapchat Birthday Emoji Meaning: What the Cake and Zodiac Symbols Mean
Have you ever opened Snapchat and noticed a 🎂 next to a friend’s name and wondered what it actually means? Understanding the Snapchat birthday emoji meaning can make Snapchat’s small symbols much easier to understand. The birthday cake emoji is generally connected with a friend’s birthday, while zodiac symbols can provide additional information about a person’s birth date. Snapchat says its Friend Emojis are based on how people use the app and can change regularly.
In this guide, you will learn what the birthday cake means, why it appears, how Snapchat’s Birthday Party setting affects it, and what zodiac emojis mean. You will also learn the difference between birthday symbols and friendship emojis so you do not confuse one Snapchat icon with another.
What Does the Snapchat Birthday Emoji Mean?
The Snapchat birthday emoji meaning is simple: the 🎂 birthday cake usually indicates that it is your friend’s birthday. Snapchat displays it beside the friend’s name on the date they have entered as their birthday.
This emoji is different from Snapchat’s friendship emojis because it represents an event rather than your relationship or Snap activity. Seeing the cake does not mean you have become someone’s Best Friend or BFF; it simply alerts you to their birthday.
Why Does the Birthday Cake Emoji Appear?
The Snapchat birthday emoji meaning is closely connected with Snapchat’s birthday information. According to Snapchat Support, the cake appears next to a friend’s name on the date they entered as their birthday.
Some guides also note that the Birthday Party feature needs to be enabled for the birthday indicator to appear. Therefore, if someone’s birthday is not showing, it does not necessarily mean they do not have a birthday entered; their privacy or birthday settings may affect what you see.
Birthday Cake vs. Zodiac Emoji
The Snapchat birthday emoji meaning should not be confused with Snapchat’s zodiac symbols. A birthday cake indicates that today is the friend’s birthday, while a zodiac symbol identifies their astrological sign based on their saved birth date.
For example, a friend may have a zodiac symbol visible on their profile even when it is not their birthday. The 🎂 is therefore a temporary birthday reminder, while the zodiac symbol can remain associated with their profile.
| Snapchat symbol | Meaning | Usually appears |
| 🎂 Birthday Cake | Friend’s birthday | On their birthday |
| ♈ Aries | Zodiac sign | Based on saved birthday |
| ♉ Taurus | Zodiac sign | Based on saved birthday |
| ♊ Gemini | Zodiac sign | Based on saved birthday |
| ♋ Cancer | Zodiac sign | Based on saved birthday |
| ♌ Leo | Zodiac sign | Based on saved birthday |
| ♍ Virgo | Zodiac sign | Based on saved birthday |
| ♎ Libra | Zodiac sign | Based on saved birthday |
| ♏ Scorpio | Zodiac sign | Based on saved birthday |
| ♐ Sagittarius | Zodiac sign | Based on saved birthday |
| ♑ Capricorn | Zodiac sign | Based on saved birthday |
| ♒ Aquarius | Zodiac sign | Based on saved birthday |
| ♓ Pisces | Zodiac sign | Based on saved birthday |
Does the Birthday Emoji Mean They Are Your Best Friend?
No. The Snapchat birthday emoji meaning is unrelated to Snapchat’s Best Friends ranking. Snapchat uses separate Friend Emojis for friendship status, including the yellow heart, red heart, and pink hearts.
For example, 💛 means you and another person are each other’s #1 Best Friend, while ❤️ means that status has continued for two weeks. The 🎂 does not indicate any of these friendship rankings.
Can You See Someone’s Birthday on Snapchat?
The Snapchat birthday emoji meaning depends partly on information the user has provided to Snapchat. If a person has entered their birthday and enabled the relevant birthday feature, Snapchat can display birthday-related indicators.
If you cannot see a birthday cake, there may simply be no birthday information available to you. Snapchat’s settings and privacy choices can influence which birthday information appears.
